Hajir Hajji is the new CEO of discounter Action, capping a career that saw her fill the shelves at 17 to the top position at 41.

Hajji, a member of the board since 2011, has served as commercial director for the past three years. She will focus on sustainability and a more engaging online presence during her tenure at the top.

Hajji succeeds current chief Sander van der Laan from January 1, but he will stay until the end of March “to ensure a smooth transition,” Action said.

Action, which started out as a Dutch company, had 655 outlets in six countries when Van der Laan became Managing Director in 2015. It now has 1,900 stores in nine countries, employs around 65,000 people and achieves a turnover. annual sales of nearly 5.6 billion euros.
