PROMISE Technology and Toshiba Electronics Europe Partner to Showcase Green Data Storage Solution at ISC High Performance

HamburgGermany, May 30, 2022 – After receiving high approval from Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH (Toshiba) rigorous testing of its Green JBOD VTrak J5960, PROMISE Technologya pioneer in data storage solutions, will partner with Toshiba to hold a joint demonstration at ISC High Performance from May 30 to June 1, 2022 at Messe Hamburg, Germany (Booth D405).

This year, ISC High Performance is focused on showcasing the most critical developments and trends in high performance computing (HPC), machine learning, and high performance data analytics to conference attendees. In addition, ISC High Performance aims to create a “sustainable environment” event to address the challenges of climate change. J5960 is a high-density, high-capacity “green-designed” 60-bay JBOD (supports more than 1PB per chassis) that balances performance and power savings to meet the growing demand for environmental sustainability in high-tech industries. technology. The VTrak J5960 will improve HPC systems using tiered data storage, as the bulk of active data can be stored on the high-capacity HDD-based J5960, while “hot” data uses flash drives. This complementary arrangement improves overall performance, cost and energy savings.

“The creation of VTrak J5960 helps customers around the world manage growing data demands, rising energy costs and sustainability compliance without compromising performance,” said Alice Chang, Chief Marketing Officer of PROMISE Technology. “As a leading storage company with over 30 years of expertise in data storage solutions, our constant goal is to provide customers with the best total cost of ownership solutions to meet the business challenges of the data storage world. ‘today.”

“To meet the growing demand for data storage, Toshiba is developing reliable hard drives such as our MG Series – Enterprise Capacity Hard Drive. But to run HDDs in cloud and enterprise data centers, equally high-performance and reliable server chassis and JBODs are required. With the PROMISE VTrak J5960, we have evaluated an excellent solution for managing petabyte storage capacities,” added Rainer W. Kaese, Senior Business Development Manager for Storage Products at Toshiba. “We are delighted to present our joint solution at the International Supercomputing Conference 2022 in Hamburg.”

Report from Toshiba laboratory confirming the VTrak J5960 GreenDNA

The VTrak J5960 high-density SAS enterprise JBOD storage solution combines high performance and high capacity in a robust, quiet, energy-efficient and cool-running system. The VTrak J5960 features fully redundant I/O modules, power supplies, and cooling units – in a fully hot-swappable design – for consistent high availability to support non-stop computing environments, even under stress. component failure.

With the reduced power consumption and redundancy that nevertheless produce high performance output, the VTrak J5960 benefits users with efficient maintenance, safer operations and lower power consumption. The Toshiba lab tested the VTrak J5960 and Toshiba 18TB hard drives with a professional high-precision power analyzer (R&S HMC8015) for accurate measurement of power consumption. The results show an excellent value of around 100W for a dual JBOD IOM without drives. Around 300W as “idle with disks” is also a surprisingly low value, as other 60-bay JBODs start from 400W and above. Additionally, a lambda factor of 0.96 means that the reactive power ratio generated by the PSUs is extremely low. The J5960’s default setting puts all SAS disks in “idle” mode when they are not accessed for two minutes; the result is significantly reduced energy consumption in the various drive configurations.

Toshiba was able to show the overall performance of the 60 hard drives with up to 15 GB/s sequential throughput and over 30,000 random IOPS. JBOD’s efficient cooling and airflow management enables long life and high reliability of hard drives by maintaining full operating temperatures below 14 degrees Celsius above ambient temperature.

In addition to outstanding power saving, the J5960 also offers ease of installation and configuration, and includes hardware features designed for simple maintenance, such as easy access to all hard drives while staying in rack, cable-free design, front-end IO module (IOM) replacement, hot-swap, and global support.
